What are some of your favorite Bible verses?
When I started this podcast in the fall of 2019, I had no idea where it would lead. When I produced episode 10, I thought I had really accomplished something amazing. And here we are at Episode 200. In thinking how to celebrate this milestone, I wanted to involve you in this process. So this entire episode is about how the Bible speaks to you. I asked you, my listeners to send in your favorite Bible verses and tell me why.
Wow! Over 70 people responded.
Celebrating 200 Episodes
You’re going to love hearing what people’s favorite verses are. And if you sent in your favorite verse, I want to thank you so much for participating. I really appreciate it. It’s been wonderful to get your emails over the last few weeks.
So here we go. And by the way, I have organized everything based on the order of the books in the Bible. And I edited a few of the remarks.
Old Testament

In the beginning God… Genesis 1:1 KJV
The first 4 words of Genesis really sums up what we need to do – start with God.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Genesis 1:26 KJV
I like it because it tells us about our origin and our relationship to God, which I see as fundamental to our understanding of who we are as the spiritual reflection of God.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:26, 27 KJV
It has changed my life to know that I’m really made in God’s image and not a mortal.

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good….” Genesis 1:31 KJV
This passage is (one of) my favorites because it reveals the character of God as Love, manifesting only goodness, kindness, mercy, love, etc. This passage states that every effect of God, everything God created, is good. Therefore, accepting this passage as truth heals (removes from thought) whatever is unlike God, good.

My favorite Bible passage is
God saw every thing that He had made and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31 KJV
I love that passage because it reminds me that goodness is the essence of God and His creation. To me it aligns with Jesus teachings that “The kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21.
Congratulations on your 200th episode of the magnificent podcast, The Bible Speaks to You.

One of my favorite Scriptures is
And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. Genesis 28:15 KJV
Even though it refers to Jacob; I read it and feel protected, provided for and comforted with the secure thought of God’s omnipresence, omnipotence, and omniscience.
Another favorite verse is:
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
Because it speaks of God’s protection and continual provision of strength. Thanks James.

For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: Job 23:14 KJV
I love this bit from Job because no matter what I am doing or asked to do, I know I don’t have to worry about it, and it will be done right. I can leave it with God and all will be well. It doesn’t mean I don’t have to go through the steps to perform whatever is my task, but I know that with God it will be possible.
Thanks, James, for your insights, and all the work you put into this podcast.

But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Job 32:8 KJV
In today’s world it is comforting to know “there is a spirit in man and the inspiration of the Almighty gives him understanding”. I pray with it daily to know not a one of us is without the Christ and we are all being talked to by God the Almighty.

For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalm 1:6 KJV
The ungodly way, not the person, but the false way perishes. As is stated in Genesis 1:26. Man (male and female) is made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, Life. So we are spiritual and always express life. We reflect only and exactly what God is.

It changes often. But right now it’s,
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Psalm 91:5 KJV
As I was praying one night I heard this come to me and it answered my need to know that despite what the world seems to show it doesn’t matter how many arrows are flung, no matter what shapes, sizes, velocities it seems to take on, because God is ever present Love and we get to witness His loving protection of us.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Psalm 91:11
In our busy lives are we, like Martha, so busy with the details of life, that we do not listen to the angel messages that are right there every moment? Or are we rather like Mary to be so clear in our thought to know that the Christ is here and now – no distance nor time. We only live in the now and all we have is our thought. I pray to listen to the angel messages from God to be free from the limitations of mortal experience.
We need to protect our thought and not let others trespass into our thought and be aware of the serpent which subtly tries to keep us away from the angel thoughts that are always present. We are blessed with the harmony of our Father-Mother God. I daily listen to the still small voice in my thought but I have also heard a deep, loud voice speak to me.
I have two other favorites:
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; Genesis 1:26

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Psalm 119:18 KJV
Here is how I read this passage: Help me dear God to see past the material, human picture (or representation) of what appears real to my eyes, so that I am fully aware of what it is You are always seeing and knowing. Make Your law, Your principle, Your truth, Your wonderfully harmonious creation, (the Kingdom of Heaven) so apparent that it brings everything and everyone in this creation peace and healing today.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:7-10 KJVWho shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35, 38, 39 KJV
These verses assure us that we can never be separated from God. It seems to me that the answer for every possible evil is to feel the presence of God. If we trust that we can never be separate from God then we will seek His/Her presence in every moment – but especially in the tough times.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:7-10 KJV
This became a favorite when I was young for the poetry of the verses, how in the deepest, darkest place I could imagine, God was there. Later, when I went to a church camp in Colorado, those verses were set to a tune and we sang that at the end of each day. I loved the way the voices faded into the summer nights there.
As an adult, I was about to leave home for a job out in a fairly remote Pacific Island nation. It was on an atoll in the middle of the Pacific ocean. My father, as I was leaving his house to go to the airport, tucked a piece of folded paper in my pocket. I later pulled it while flying over the sparking sea toward a place very distant from my home. He had written down these very verses that were so special to me and so apropos to the occasion.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5, 6 KJV
This passage reminds me to keep my heart God-centered, which brings me peace, because I know I’m never left alone to figure out life challenges. Acknowledging God removes any pressure of self-direction, yet demands immediate obedience to the direction of God’s “still small voice.”

It’s hard to pick my most favourite but I really love
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thin own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5, 6 KJV
This means to me, that if I put God first in all I do, knowing that He is the only power, the only cause, the only reality of being, and listen only to His voice, I will always be with Him, He will show me the way I need to go and He will supply my every need, care for me, protect me, guide, guard and govern me, and I will never be separated from His perfection and goodness, never separated from the Christ in consciousness. Therefore I will always have everything I need.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
This verse is so instructive, and brings such peace anytime I am feeling in need of comfort, healing or in a period of waiting. (During a slow real estate transaction least year, for instance.)
When feeling stressed about anything, I love:
Be still, and know that I am God! Psalm 46:10 (to 🙂 KJV
My mom used to say this in the morning as my dad drove off to work, and I often pray it now before or when driving:
The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5, 6 KJV
This made all the difference to me after my mom passed on, because I have no siblings and no close relatives lived nearby. It all was up to me to do. By following the directions of trusting and not telling God, but listening, and expressing gratitude every step of the way, everything was handled smoothly (just a few molehills that never became mountains). I am still so grateful.

It was hard to choose a favorite because there are so many excellent passages in the Bible, but God directed me to post
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
This passage is a favorite of mine because it is a constant directive to look ABOVE and beyond what the limited material senses tell us, and listen to God’s direction for how to go forward. God ALWAYS guides us in our thoughts for what to say, what to do, where to go, and what to think. When our thoughts are tuned in to and trusting this guidance, we experience the ever-present harmony.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10 KJV
I heard this as part of a talk on not letting fear get the best of you. It was just what I needed at the time, and it really helped me get through a difficult time. It would (and still does) comfort me to know that God is right here, right now, helping me and holding me up even when it doesn’t seem like it!

Fear not, for I am with you;

Yes, I will help you,

For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:10, 13 NKJV
It speaks directly to me with commanding yet reassuring authority of God’s care and love; of His omnipotent, guiding and gentle right hand to calm all fears and worry. It tells me that God is and will be with me always, and to not be fearful but to be more aware of His presence, 24/7, every day.

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55: 10, 11 KJV
I prayed with this when my dog had a serious life threatening problem. The passage told me that she is a blessing, came to us as a blessing and must therefore continue to bless. She had no choice. She was healed immediately when I saw this. This of course is the same for all of us as well. The continuity of good came to me so clearly when praying with the above verses from Isaiah. Everything goes full circle. Everything comes from God and remains in God blessing all.
A family member was healed at the same time as I was praying for my dog.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10 KJV
I love this verse and when I pray it, this is one of the thoughts I have : –
I am the image and likeness of my Father Mother God. I am the wonderous blessing poured forth from the open windows of heaven – my conscious awareness of Love. I believe it is the same for everyone. We are all the ‘poured forth’ of Love. We are the gift that is given. This beautiful, brilliant, crystal clear light of Life, expressed eternally by God’s man, is us, you and me. This touches my heart and I also ponder prayerfully whether this is what is meant by the light of the Christ.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:14–16 KJV
I have loved these verses since I first heard them as a little girl. It reminds me that God has created me in Her image and likeness (see Genesis 1), and that it is my honor and my privilege to express goodness and love to everyone I see. Beginning with my family and then the first drivers I see on the road, I strive to love everyone as God loves me.
The blessings that love brings to me and the world are immeasurable! Our world needs us now more than ever to shine brightly, express good works and glorify our Father-Mother which art in heaven, and within each one of us right now!

This is a very difficult question to answer, I have lots of favourites but the Bible verse that has stood out to me since I was a small child is
Ye are the light of the world.
I always thought it was God telling us to go out and ‘shine’, glow, smile, love the world you live in and the people in it, be happy, the very simple thoughts of a small child. Now many years on I try to live the same way.
If I am allowed, my most recent favourite it would be
And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. John 21:6 KJV
I find it’s a reminder that we don’t have to doggedly do things the same way all the time but its ok to change our thoughts, our ways of thinking and doing things, get out of the rut that is perhaps holding us back. There are lots of different ways of doing things and if we don’t listen and try some of those ways how will we find the right one.
Many thanks for your Bible Speaks to You podcast, I love it, the guests you have are inspirational.

And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. Mark 1:41 KJV
Years ago, this passage popped up in my thought in a moment of rage, as I was about to react to a friend’s behavior with rough treatment. It instantly stopped cold the intention to harm and settled both of us right down. It restored harmony in a tense situation. and we were able to proceed calmly and harmoniously with a project we were working on. “Yes, I thought, and Jesus never made a move without compassion.” In the many years since, “…Jesus moved with compassion…” has been a pop-up saving thought in quite a few situations, assisting me to respond with love and compassion rather than to react with anger and immediate regret.

wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? Luke 2:49 KJV
About a decade ago I was jobless, had so much loans to pay but was not also attending church nor studying the Bible. At one point my neighbor invited me to join her in a net-working company. I joined the seminar. It was about persistence, etc. where we also viewed a short video about Moses.
One day I decided and went back to church having because I needed to be about my Father’s business. But then our team meeting always had to be on a Wednesday afternoon until midnight. I noticed that it was keeping me out of church. So I decided not to continue with that net-working group and had more focus on church work. Then one moment I read an article about how God supplies us with everything we need. It included this idea; if you suddenly come to know that Bill Gates was your father, the richest man in the world at that time, then he could pay all your debts…. I remember well that I was so uplifted and believed that God, my Father, was the wealthiest, has all means to help, guide and provide me with everything I need. Not too long after that I had a job opportunity, but at some point I got so downhearted with the feeling that I was not fit for the job.
I had so many fears and was feeling homesick just imagining I’d be away from home. I did not even fill out the job application. And while I was weeding in front of our house, a gentle persuasion came to me in this manner; if you will not apply now what will you do? I thought, I will just continue with my church activities. Then the still small voice asked me “So what will you do when the bank and the coop will remind you again of your long overdue loans? Are you going to go back and repeat seeking the kingdom of God? Behold I have set an open door. Then I went inside the house and found this Bible verse:
These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: Revelation 3:7, 8 KJV
I realized that I myself cannot shut the door. I humbly said “I am sorry Father. I will go.” I filled out the application and took the job. And from that moment I was filled with a joy and gratitude that I never felt before. I was happy all years through. I was able to pay all my debts. One thing I have learned and am enjoying is God’s ever-present love, in my family experiences and church activities. Because I’m always about my Father’s business.

I love the story of the sick woman who touched the hem of Jesus garment.
Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. Luke 8:43, 44 NKJV
I love this particular story because it came to me how Jesus’s expectations to be healed is simple as trust and give all to God and forget yourself. To me, the hem as the smallest part of a fabric and that it could stand for the purity down to the tiniest little detail of who we are, and the way God. sees us. And we are free from anything when we let that purity shine.

OK, I’ve been hesitating on this because I can’t choose. The two I’m down to are

and
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17 KJV
Both are full of assurance of God’s unchanging love for me, and cast out all fear and worry. When the family turns to me to say grace at Thanksgiving (because I’m the only openly religious person in the bunch) I usually say the James verse.

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26 KJV
This passage from Jesus is unexpected, and challenging. It’s a favorite because Jesus reminds us that human origins and relationships, as dear as they may be, are not part of the kingdom of heaven. Each of us relates first and foremost to one Father-Mother God. And this understanding is needed for further spiritual growth.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3 KJV

In one short sentence, Paul tells us what our relationship is with God. I start each morning with “Hello God, Love of my life!” He is and always has been there for me in such a wide variety of ways. It’s all about our relationship with God.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 KJV
Really, all of Romans 8. Not very original I know but the verses profess such a sense of oneness between God and man.

I have really been loving this lately from Paul in
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38, 39 KJV
That’s saying to me that nothing that I could go through or experience could ever remove me from being RIGHT IN God’s comforting embrace. And it relaxes me so that I can accept and hear more good ideas from God and feeling more convinced of His promises.

My favorite Bible verses are from
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38, 39 KJV
To me this says it all. No matter what we go through, no matter what losses we face or fears we carry with us, the bottom line is that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God.

be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12: 2 KJV
I love that the responsibility is on me to seek (and find) the truth about God, me, and the universe.
James, I love your weekly broadcasts. Thank you so much for all the work you do to bless us!

…there is no power but of God: Romans 13:1 KJV
God is All and there is nothing else. This is 100% Truth and applies to everyone and everything as Jesus taught, preached and healed. We are to do likewise. When we thoroughly understand this fact we will know our Father as Jesus did. What more can we desire? Nothing else!

Hi James, my favorite verse is
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NIV
I love this because it’s a benediction full of hope and joy!

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. 1 Corinthians 3:19 KJV
This verse caught my attention recently. It really compliments what I would have answered as my favorite Bible verse up until now (Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)) but it says it in a way that is new to me. So, this is such an important lesson for me, one I seem to need constant reminding of, that I need to be quiet, not listening to my own or others’ opinions, but listening for God’s wisdom!

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 2:15 KJV
I love this verse because it brings together so many other verses such as: Be still and know God. When your thought is held captive to the obedience of Christ you can’t help but love others, also anything that interferes with knowing and loving God is imaginary and should be cast aside. This proves the thought that there is no other power but God. This verse also rolls all 10 Commandments into the 2 Jesus gave us when he said true obedience is to love God with all your heart, strength, mind and to love others as yourself .

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4: 6, 7 NIV

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
This passage so clearly states the gifts and tools that God gives us, and also what God has NO part in – fear. During challenging times, it is a grounding reminder that we can experience life differently, walking in peace even when world events are chaotic.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
It gives me comfort, hope, and strength and a way to sort out confusing thoughts.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
Here I interpret “power” to mean knowledge of God.
This verse from 2 Timothy tells us we have everything we need to fulfill this verse in Micah:
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:8 KJV

My favorite verse comes from the 13th chapter of Hebrews:
I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5 KJV
For me, there is no amount of fear, doubt, sadness or despair that those eight words can’t conquer.

He (God) Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. I will not, I will not, I will not in any degree leave you helpless, nor forsake nor let you down, relax My hold on you,—Assuredly not!” Hebrews 13:5 Amplified Bible
Although the passage was referring specifically to money, I find this passage helpful with all forms of struggle over the belief of lack of health, lack of opportunity, lack of intelligence, lack of joy, etc.
The carnal mind is a bully that hypnotizes thought into believing that it sees, feels, and experiences something that is actually not happening. It does this by exciting thought and by building up fear.
We have to mentally, prayerfully, INSIST that Truth will not relax Its hold on us…Assuredly not!!! “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32 KJV God gives us dominion! God gives us the authority over any form of lack!

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Hebrew 13:4-6 KJV
My reason is, Bible is saying that marriage is honorable above all and that God will judge those who break the marriage covenant. This is a very serious text, verse 5 says, Let your conversations be without covetousness. I personally have realized that we most of us haven’t taken our time to study these particular scripture, because the magnitude of it is so big that human mind cannot comprehend it.

My favorite Bible verse
Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:11, 20, 21 NLT
I love this passage because it shows the deep love and compassion Jesus has for all his followers, including you and me, and everyone who will come after us. He prayed for our oneness, our unity, with him and the Father. That’s just really powerful and I really appreciate it.
