Do you have any questions for Jesus?
In celebration of Episode 300 of The Bible Speaks to You Podcast, I asked you, my listeners: “If you could go back in time, what would you Jesus?” I am totally blown away with the amazing responses you sent me, over 150 questions for Jesus.
Now, there’s an incredibly wide variety in these questions. You will see very quickly these questions come from very diverse theological perspectives. Some of them have an assumption built into them that reveals where the person asking the question is coming from. You may not agree with their assumption or their perspective, but that’s okay. They’re sharing their honest position.
So instead of getting judgmental, let this be a learning experience. Hopefully, hearing all these questions will prompt more questions in your own heart.
And ultimately, my hope is you’ll turn back to what Jesus said and did to get a better understanding of who Jesus is, how he thought, and how he lived, so you can follow his example.
I’m reading these questions in the order I received them. And I am not making any effort to answer them or comment. Although I have done a little light editing for clarity.
Questions for Jesus
So, here we go…
Clare Jackson: Spey Bay in the north of Scotland
What happened to Joseph?
Liwie de Leon: Chino Hills Ca.
If you were living today in this modern world will your preaching be the same? I want to ask this question as I felt there are more challenges to overcome now than during his (Jesus) time 2,000 years ago.
Joy Hale Bellingham, Washington
If Jesus came to speak with me one of the questions I would ask is: How can we soothe the anger and frustration of this world? We are continually faced with aggressive opinions from opposing factions to the point of possible annihilation of the human race. Most people want to live a peaceful life but our leaders in this world seem to be controlled by ego.
Joyce Nease
As to your question, “What would you ask Jesus?”, I’m still thinking on that. Maybe, ‘If God and Heaven are All and Eternal, why are we even presented with any other option?” But I’m still thinking about it!
Comfort Aderinola Babalola Kaduna, Kaduna State, northern part of Nigeria
Why did God make the rich to be oppressing the poor continuously all over the world?
Marsha Bothell, WA
We all know how Jesus spoke to the Pharisees of his day as they were blinded to Love & Jesus’ healing ministry by their over-emphasis on the Law, as they saw it. Pharisees in the church have not gone away.
I would like to ask Jesus, How should we deal with the Pharisees of today? (First, I’m sure he would want us to love them!) On this issue, I’ve learned I will not be heard for my “much speaking.” Often I can see both sides of issues, but it seems to me that Jesus always erred on the side of compassion and love for our fellow man.
Jesus chased the money-changers from the temple and spoke boldly to the Pharisees. Yet to Pilot he spoke more quietly, yet clearly, about his mission. (On the other hand, to Herod, he “opened not his mouth.” ) I’m praying to love more, forgive, and be trusting of God’s ability to overturn “until he come whose right it is…”
Barbara Nichols Camden, Maine
As a child, Jesus definitely was aware of his spirituality but I would ask When did you KNOW you were the Messiah, the Christ sent to save and redeem the world. Did God tell during one of his times alone with God in the garden or mountain? He obviously knew his power was of God when he performed his miracles.
Janet Alder South East Scotland
When we pray we aim to see God’s goodness everywhere, but you said “For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. (Matthew 26:11)
Does that mean poverty will never be eliminated?
Judy Killebrew Cocoa, Florida
In response to your question regarding Jesus episode 300, I would love to ask Jesus about the first 30 years of his life. What was it like growing up in Nazareth?
Jenny from Lyme Regis U.K.
If I could meet Jesus I would ask him, Please how can I heal anyone I meet who is poorly. You said to your disciples to go out and heal folk, and the implication is anyone who believes in you should go out and do the same. I would love to do that but I don’t know how to do that. Can you explain HOW someone can heal? How can I become good enough or spiritual enough to heal? What do I need to know?
Bonnie Lockhart Hemet, CA
I would like to ask Jesus, “Are you God, incarnate, or are you God’s Son in the flesh?”
This is such a topic of controversy for most religions. I’m hoping you can shed some light on it.

My question to Jesus would be….Why did you not marry???

Did I do okay ? Did I do the thing I came here to do or did I miss my calling?” I’d also ask him how he felt about Judas and did he know Judas would betray him when he joined the group? I’d also ask him what the heck was he doing (and where) between the ages of 13 and about 29-30!
Do I have to go back? In reference to reincarnation.
And I’d ask him, Did you really expect the other disciples to accept Mary as their teacher when you were gone?

Why did you let, Paul’s writings, be so altered by “The Church,” causing so much hate and division of your followers and division under your roof (the sky) to this day, the Jews, Christians, (Catholics, Protestants) Arabs, Muslims? Why are you letting Mankind be so ignorant, all of your religions, to go against GOD! Letting “The Church” throw out your Handbook of YOUR WAYS, THE OLD TESTAMENT, and let this World get so topsy-turvy, good turns to evil and evil turns to good? Yes, we have freewill, and Yes, You are Patient and Slow to Anger, and Yes, YOU even are Merciful, but to let mankind get SSSOOO out-of hand… Why? We should be kissing the Ground that you walked, not killing each other! Why? WHY? Why do we have Eyes that refuse to see? Ears that refuse to hear, and Minds that refuse to Think? How much more can You and Mankind take? What was/is /will be the Purpose of this All! Why did Paul cause division, when Division in a house will not stand?
Why are we not brothers who dwell together in Unity?
Sue Wall, Portland, Maine

What would I ask Jesus? “I think you wept because, after your patience with Martha was pretty much rewarded with a stone wall of dogma, you were hoping that Mary, at least–Mary, who sat at your feet while Martha was serving, would understand, but she had the exact same complaint that Martha did, and it seemed your apostles were being quizzical at best. Am I right?”

When the woman of Canaan came to you, why did you say, “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then, when she pleaded, “Lord, help me,” you said, “It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.” Why did you treat her so unlovingly? This looks like racial prejudice. What was going on in your mind when you spoke to her so disrespectfully?
Why did you, Jesus, discriminate in that instance and not in other cases? For example the healing of the insane man in the country of the Gadarenes in Mark 5.
I would also like to know why you, the Messiah, ‘appeared’ at the time you did?
And what do you think about the doctrine of transubstantiation?

When I have a healing here on earth, the mortal picture changes and what was wrong or what I had incorrectly envisioned was made right. Thus, if I could understand my spiritual life as you taught, would my mortal body cease to exist? But if I didn’t understand my spiritual life, and continued to believe in mortality, even at the point of ‘death’, would I expect to be ‘reincarnated’ til I DO understand my spiritual life?
Lory
Is God disappointed in me ?
Kim Ridgefield, Washington.
Did you ever have a good friend that you just spent time with one on one?
Donna Burwash Calgary, Alberta, Canada
A question for Jesus, if I could go back in time as my present-day self, might be:
Is a person’s present human experience only one of a progression of such experiences involving degrees or many layers of waking up to a new situation, to a new experience?
Not a great question and so when I actually came into his presence, I might decide not to ask it at all.
Merrie Harrison Connecticut
I have two questions that I would like to ask Jesus if I could.

What would your message to Christians today be? Would it be the same?

What would I like to ask Jesus?
Why was it necessary for such suffering (as in the crucifixion) to let the world know that life is eternal? In fact, why is it necessary for anyone to suffer severely in order to go up higher in spiritual progress?
I never imagined some of these questions
Judi Lindsey Candia, NH
Here’s what I would ask Jesus:
Why is a mentally and physically disabled child born to his parents? It seems so ‘inconceivable’. The kind of infant that never matures beyond basic eating and sleeping and eliminating. It seems like such an unnecessary burden to the parents. Not to mention the child himself, the child of God.
How are we to address or respond to the devastation done to this beautiful creation? The animals slaughtered cruelly for food in factory farms, animals smuggled and poached for money, the mass species extinction now taking place due to man’s impact on the earth, water, natural resources – due to greed, etc. There is no sacred bond, respect and relationship between man and this beautiful creation. It seems to be all about what he can extract, blow up, burn, develop, etc. The built civilization has put massive barriers in the way of animals – windows to run into, domestic cats that hunt and kill, walls erected that stop migration, oceans full of plastic, etc. It seems all the innocent animals – and children and people – are living horrific lives – due to man’s inhumanity to man and beast.
Greg Rice San Francisco, CA
Here are some questions I’d ask Jesus.
Why did you not share the how-to of your teachings during your mission?
If you were sent by God, why did your healings stop after about 200 – 300 years following your ascension? Wouldn’t an all-powerful God have found a way to continue the mission of healing?
Mankind existed for thousands of years before you appeared on earth. If we are all creations of God, including those who existed before you, why were you sent to earth at the particular point in time you did, and not beforehand to benefit others?
If God chose you to deliver the Word of God on earth, and made this known to your parents, why didn’t your own family understand or follow you?
Considering that the Word has been broadly published for centuries via various religions, why is the world today in the extremely troubling state it’s in? It seems the longer times goes on, the more human ignorance and hatred is manifested, despite all of our advanced education and religious publishing.
Why do religious people, with deep understanding of your mission and beatitudes, often treat each other the worst (compared to non-religious people), and outwardly (and sometimes gleefully) show animosity towards each other?
Marilyn St. George, Utah
If I could talk to Jesus I would ask him if God places us on earth for His purpose or if we choose to be here to learn something? I know we are created spiritually, but do all of His ideas go through this mortal experience?
Polly Cheney Charlevoix, Michigan
If I could ask Jesus one question I might ask why he asked Peter if he loved him “more than these”? It seems like a question he already knew the answer to.
Emilie Warren
If I could ask Christ Jesus one question, I would preface my question with gratitude for all he has done. I would then ask him, “How do we fast— is it sacrificing sinful beliefs?”
Virginia Sacramento, CA
I feel like I don’t haveto have a conversation with Jesus because the Bible gives me a sense of what he would say to whatever I would ask him. For me, it’s about practicing what he said.
Michelle Gervais
What do you mean by “you will do greater works because I go unto my Father”? How is your leaving causing us to do more? Are you helping from another vantage point? Are you removing yourself as a crutch on which we lean too much – and so we will need to peck our own way out of the material shell and, in so doing, strengthen ourselves spiritually to do more good? How could we ever possibly do GREATER works than healing every material limitation and overcoming time, space, hate and death and disease, like you did? AND…. What should we be doing differently or better to let our light shine? Do we need to love more? Remind me how to love those that persecute and revile good people.

I would ask Jesus, why do so many people suffer with mental illness ?
My questions for Jesus
I want to thank everyone who participated in this project. It has been fascinating to see all these questions coming from so many different perspectives.
And by the way, you may be wondering what question I would ask Jesus. I’ve thought about that many times over the years, but I think what I would ask him now is: So many different churches and theologies all claim they are the only true church or faith. How do I tell if I or anyone else is believing a man-made doctrine or the truth? Is there anything you can say to someone who is believing a man-made doctrine, but is convinced it is divine, that will help them see the light?
Again, I want to thank you all for participating. It’s been very enlightening for me and I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing the curiosity that people have.
That really should be one of our super powers, to ask questions, to be curious on a deep spiritual level, because when we ask questions that we’ve never asked before, it gets us to think in afresh new way. And that helps us grow spiritually.
Please share this episode with your friends and get a conversation going. Ask them what they would ask Jesus of they could.
